Crow Catches Fish Using Bait

This video was shot by Dr. Oren Hasson who states: "This video undoubtedly shows one of the most sophisticated behaviors ever seen in a wild animal."

Crows do like to dunk some types of food in water to soften it. Perhaps, by chance, fish showed up to eat the food the crow was soaking and the bird took advantage of the situation.

Here is a Green Heron using bread as bait for fishing. It makes me wonder if the crow learned to fish by copying behavior or if it developed independently. Hmmm.

If you do, too, you can order them at Erie Basin in Brooklyn.
My friends who are subscribed to this blog and my CrowAday blog tell me that they are getting ads for anti-wrinkle crows' feet cream these days. hmmmm. Made me think of these candlesticks...my preferred version of crows' feet.
